Crochet Stitches

Simple Textured Crochet Stitch Tutorial

Today, we will be learning an easy crochet stitch using only chains, single crochets, and double crochets to create a beautiful textured stitch. After the set-up rows, this stitch has only a one-row repeat. I think this would be an ideal stitch for a textured baby blanket or rectangular wrap. The best part about it? It’s totally reversible!

Included below are the full written instructions, photo tutorial, and chart. So let’s begin!

Skill Level: Beginner.

Materials:

Yarn: I’m using Loops and Threads Impeccable in Soft Rose for this swatch.

Hook: H (5.00mm) I would recommend a smaller hook than normal to get the full effect of the texture.

This ergonomic crochet hook set can be purchased on Amazon (paid link).

Required Stitches and Abbreviations:

  • Chain (ch)
  • Single crochet (sc)
  • Double crochet (dc)

Written Instructions:

Chain any odd number of stitches.

1. Foundation Row: 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch to the end. Turn, ch 1.

2. Set-up Row: Skip 1st sc, * in next sc work (1 sc, ch 1, 1 dc), skip next sc; rep from * to end, ending with (1 sc, ch 1, 1 dc) in last sc. Turn, ch 1.

3. Row Repeat: In each sc of previous row, work (1 sc, ch 1, 1 dc), ending with (1 sc, ch 1, 1 dc) in last sc. Turn, ch 1.

4. Repeat the Row Repeat until desired size is met. Cut yarn and fasten off.
